Record names not showing in title bar of window

In CRM versions 2011 and earlier, when you view a record it opens in a new windows and the window title is the name of the record as shown in this example.

However, you might find that the record name does not appear, instead a URL is shown like this ('ve obscured part of the URL).

Microsoft Dynamics Learning and Training resources

Microsoft provides a variety of resources for learning about Microsoft Dynamics products. These are summarised in the table below.

Sales Entity Relationships

The diagram shows the relationships between the sales entities (opportunities, quotes, orders and invoices) in CRM.

Cascade Delete Behaviour

Consider the following scenario.

Scenario

A custom entity, Project has been added to a Dynamics CRM system.

There is a 1:n relationship between Account and Project. The relationship behaviour is set to Cascade All for Delete.

A user has Organization level rights on all privileges for Account and Project except that the privilege is set to None for Delete on Project. A project record, Project A, is parented by Account A.

Field level security in CRM

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

CRM 4.0 does not provide a method for securing records at the field level. If a user has modify access to a record then they may change any field in the record.

Where field-level security is needed then there are workarounds:

Buying Microsoft Dynamics CRM Workgroup Edition

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Workgroup Edition is best purchased under an Open Value licence. Open Value includes the option to buy a step-up to Server Edition thus preserving the initial investment in the Workgroup edition licence.
An Open Value licence also means that you can spread payments over 3 years.

Tracking E-mails error - "The text entered exceeds the maximum length"

You may get the above error when tracking e-mails from the Outlook client. A solution appears to be to change the length of the Message Id (messageid) attribute on the E-mail entity from 100 to 200 or more.

Why this works or is needed, I don't know.

"Unable to load client print control" error

This appears to a common error when trying to print a Microsoft Dynamics CRM report. The discussion at this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/4a4a2239-3ac5-4f1d-8b2d-b2c5f03d3c07/ has a lot of tips.

Note the suggestion to delete a registry setting seems to be the best.

Running negative queries

Sometimes you need to get a list of records (say contacts) that don't have any related records of a particular type (e.g. appointments).
Unfortunately, this is not possible using Advanced Find as it can only return lists of records that have related records (e.g. contacts with appointments). Yes, you can narrow the related records (e.g. contacts with appointments after a certain date) but not to the extent of querying for contacts with no appointments.
